Abhinav Manohar: Gujarat Titans bought Abhinav Manohar for 13 times more than his base price and he seems to be doing the work for which the team had associated him with him.

New Delhi: The defending champions Gujarat Titans defeated Mumbai Indians by 55 runs at their home Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday. This is Gujarat’s fifth win this season, but this victory could have been difficult for Hardik Pandya’s team if player of the match Abhinav Manohar had not played a stormy innings. His stormy innings changed the momentum of the match and then Gujarat scored a big score in front of which Mumbai was battered.

Batting first, Gujarat scored 207 runs losing six wickets in 20 overs. The team of Mumbai Indians could score only 152 runs after losing nine wickets after playing the entire over. Abhinav was adjudged player of the match for his innings of 42 runs off 21 balls with the help of three fours and three sixes.

Abhinav stepped on the field in the 13th over. He played only five balls in the 13th and 14th overs and scored two runs. But after the terror he created, the Mumbai bowlers shook badly. Abhinav hit two fours and a six on Piyush Chawla in the 15th over. From here the match changed again and it rained runs for Gujarat.

Manohar was moving towards his half-century. But his innings came to an end on the first ball of the 19th over. He tried to play a big shot on Riley Meredith’s ball but he played the ball in the hands of Jason Behrendorff. He scored 42 runs in 21 balls with the help of three fours and as many sixes. The three sixes he hit were high.

Seeing Abhinav, David Miller also changed color and scored fast. Both of them shared a partnership of 71 runs in 35 balls and took Gujarat to a big score. Gujarat got this huge score when it had only 130 runs in 15 overs. Miller, however, could not complete his half-century and was dismissed after scoring 46 runs in 22 balls. He hit two fours and four sixes.

Where did Abhinav come from

Abhinav was bought by Gujarat in last year’s auction for a price of 2.6 crores. This amount was 13 times more than his base price. Gujarat had given him this amount only for his hitting. He showed his ability to hit sixes while playing for Karnataka in the Syed Mushtaq Trophy. In 2021, he had hit 162 runs in four matches in this tournament. In a match against Saurashtra, he scored an unbeaten 70 off 49 balls.

He made headlines from this innings. This innings got him into the IPL and he is doing the same thing for Gujarat.

Abhinav comes from a simple family in Bangalore. His father runs a footwear shop in Bangalore. His father took him to cricket coach Irfan Sait. His father asked Irfan to include Abhinav in his academy and it was from here that his cricket career took off.

In 2006, Abhinav was playing under-14 matches. During this he suffered a head injury. He went for treatment and got stitches but the surprising thing was that he was present on the field the next day and scored a century. According to his coach, this proved to be the turning point of Abhinav’s career.
