Corona’s time was a dreadful time for most, but for Sri Lankan bowler Prabhat Jayasuriya, Corona brought a gift. His life was made because of this virus. His dream of playing cricket for Sri Lanka came true and today he created history.

Jayasuriya has become the fastest spinner to take 50 Test wickets. He achieved this feat in 7 matches. He became the joint second bowler along with Vernon Philander and Tom Richardson to score the fastest half-century in Test cricket. Ireland’s Paul Stirling became his 50th Test victim on the last day of the second Test. With this, Jayasuriya broke the 71 year old record.

Amazing 5 wickets 6 times

Earlier this record was in the name of Alf Valentine of West Indies, which he broke. Valentine completed his 50 wickets in the fourth Test match against Australia in 1951-1952. He achieved this feat in 8 matches. Jayasuriya, 31, made his Test debut against Australia last year. Where he did wonders by taking 12 wickets for 177 runs in his debut match itself. In the first innings against Ireland, he did a wonderful job of taking 5 wickets for the sixth time.

In the four Test matches in Galle where the spinners flopped badly, Jayasuriya made his Test debut at the age of 30 and then took 29 wickets in his first 3 matches. After this, the selectors could not ignore this player even after wishing. 12 against Australia and then took a total of 17 wickets in 2 Test matches against Pakistan.
