Ahmedabad: Ishant Sharma made great use of his experience in the last over to snatch victory from Gujarat Titans on Tuesday and give victory to Delhi Capitals. Delhi defeated Gujarat by five runs in the match played at Narendra Modi Stadium in IPL-2023. Delhi had set a target of 131 runs in front of Gujarat. Gujarat could score only 125 runs after playing the entire over. In this over of Ishant, Hardik Pandya’s half-century and Mohammed Shami’s brilliant bowling were overturned.

Delhi bowlers tried to trap Gujarat by taking early wickets but captain Hardik Pandya and Abhinav Manohar got the team out of trouble by sharing a great partnership but could not win the team. This is only Delhi’s third win of this season. Ishant and Khaleel Ahmed took two wickets each for Delhi. Enrique Norkhia and Kuldeep Yadav got one wicket each.

Gujarat is in trouble

Gujarat has one to one batsman, but Delhi put this team under pressure by giving initial shocks. On the last ball of the first over, Khaleel Ahmed, returning from injury in this match, sent Wriddhiman Saha to the pavilion. In the first over, Gujarat lost a wicket and did not even score runs. Shubman Gill took four runs on the last ball of the second over, playing an excellent cut on Ishant Sharma, but he was dismissed on a similar shot.

Gill played a cut on Norkhiya on the first ball of the fourth over, but this time Manish Pandey, standing at point, took a brilliant catch. Gill scored six runs in seven balls. Ishant bowled Vijay Shankar on a personal score of six runs. Gujarat sent David Miller up but he could not succeed. Miller got out while playing the scoop off the ball of Kuldeep Yadav. Meanwhile, Pandya completed his half-century. But after this Manohar got out. Manohar, who went to play a big shot off Khaleel Ahmed, was caught by Aman at long on. Manohar scored 26 runs in 33 balls.

Tewatia showed his attitude, did not win

In the last two overs, Gujarat needed 33 runs to win. Here Rahul Tewatia showed his style. He troubled Delhi by hitting three sixes in the 19th over. Gujarat needed 12 runs in the last over. But Ishant did not allow these runs to be scored and Delhi won brilliantly. Pandya remained unbeaten after scoring 56 runs in 53 balls. He hit seven fours in his innings but could not win the team.

Shami shook Delhi

Delhi captain David Warner won the toss and decided to bat first in this match. But his decision was not successful. On the very first ball of the match, Mohammed Shami sent Phil Salt to the pavilion. On the first ball of the second over, Rashid Khan took advantage of a misunderstanding between runs between David Warner and Priyam Garg and dismissed the Delhi captain. Warner got out after scoring two runs.

Coming back in this match, Shami made Riley Russo (8) his second victim. Manish Pandey (1) also became a victim of Shami. Delhi had hopes from Priyam Garg but after scoring 10 runs, he too fell victim to Shami.
