Mohali: Mumbai Indians bought England’s stormy fast bowler Joffra Archer last season by paying a huge amount of eight crores. But he was injured and could not play the last season. After this, Mumbai was waiting for IPL-2023 and this team was expecting from Archer that this bowler would give new dimensions to the team by playing according to his reputation. But this does not seem to be happening. Archer failed again on Wednesday and he again disappointed Mumbai.

Mumbai took the field against Punjab Kings at IS Bindra Stadium. The Punjab batsmen thrashed the Mumbai bowlers fiercely and scored 214 runs losing three wickets in 20 overs. Archer also looted runs in this match.

Most Expensive IPL Match

All the bowlers were getting beaten against Punjab. But looking at Archer’s status, it seemed that this bowler could push Punjab on the back foot at his own pace. This did not happen and Archer spent 56 runs in four overs of his quota in this match and could not take a single wicket. His economy was 14, which was the highest among Mumbai bowlers. This is Archer’s worst performance in IPL. Before this, he had never given so many runs in a match in IPL.

This proved to be Archer’s costliest IPL match so far. He was thrashed by Jitesh Sharma and Liam Livingston. Livingstone hit Archer for three consecutive long sixes in the 19th over. Archer started his bowling by throwing the fifth over of the innings. He gave five runs in this over. After this he came to bowl the 13th over and gave away 21 runs. Jitesh Sharma hit three fours in this over. Archer then bowled the 16th over and gave only seven runs. Then in the 19th over, he spent 27 runs.

IPL-2023 has been like this till now

After waiting for a year, Mumbai expected that Archer would do wonders for him but it did not happen. He is failing in most of the matches he has played this season. This is Archer’s fourth match of this season. In these four matches, Archer has taken only two wickets. So far, that edge has not been seen in Archer for which Mumbai had bought him. Meanwhile, he also went to Belgium and returned there after getting treatment for his elbow injury, but no difference is visible.
