Ahmedabad: The wait for South African opener Quinton Dickock to play his first match in IPL-2023 finally ended on Sunday. He is playing his first match of this season at Narendra Modi Stadium against Gujarat Titans. Due to him, Naveen-ul-Haq had to go out of playing-11. Lucknow’s regular captain KL Rahul is out of this season due to injury and that is why Dickock will take over the opening in his place.

Dickock was in the team last season and played every match. He played an important role in taking the team to the playoffs on the basis of his stormy batting. Last season, Dickock scored 508 runs in 15 matches. He scored three half-centuries and one century.

Dickock has been included in the playing-11 in place of Naveen-ul-Haq. The team has not even kept Naveen in the substitute. Naveen is the same player who had a dispute with Virat Kohli in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. In this match, there was a lot of tussle between Virat and Naveen and both of them got confused even after shaking hands after the match. Lucknow’s mentor Gautam Gambhir also clashed with Kohli after the match. After this, the BCCI imposed a fine on all three.

Krunal Pandya, who is captaining, has not told the reason why Naveen is out in this match. Usually, teams take extra batsmen while batting first to use the rule of impact player this season and then include bowlers at the time of bowling. But for this four substitute players are selected. But Naveen’s name is not even in this list and hence Naveen will not be seen playing in this match. Daniel Samms’ name is also there in this list i.e. if the team wanted to replace Samms with Substitute players, Naveen could have been kept because both are foreigners.

De Kock was scheduled to play from the beginning but this batsman joined the Lucknow team after two matches of this season as he was playing ODI series against Netherlands with his national team South Africa. In his place, Lucknow included West Indies all-rounder Kyle Meyers in the team, who batted so well that the team management did not give him a chance even after Dickock’s arrival. After joining the team, Dickock had to wait for eight matches this season.

He was injured due to KL Rahul injury and Lucknow needed a great opening partner in his place, then the team gave Dickock a chance. Dickock is a stormy batsman and he will be expected to show the game according to his style.
