New Delhi: It is said that whatever the battle may be, it takes more courage than courage to win it. Where Tushar Deshpande is standing today, it is only because of his courage and passion. Otherwise, his cricket life has not been less than a war. The age of making a mark in cricket had just begun when personal and family problems encamped in life. It seemed as if the career has come to a standstill before it even started. But only if Tushar gives up.
The story starts from 2017. Tushar Deshpande was showing his speed and accuracy while playing for the Parsi Gymkhana Club in a local tournament in Mumbai. Everyone was being impressed by the edge and speed of his balls. It seemed that the days of Tushar are about to return. But then the news of leg injury and mother’s cancer shook him.

First the injury broke, then the news of cancer shocked the mother
Deshpande had told in an interview to TOI three years back how in January 2017 he suffered an ankle injury, then one after the other pulled his hamstring. Due to these two injuries related to his feet, his career which seemed to be booming suddenly came to a standstill. Tushar was away from cricket for one to one and a half years.
For Deshpande, it became a matter of hail as soon as he shaved his head when in March of the same year, amidst the news of being out of cricket, it was found that the mother had cancer. This news shocked Tushar even more. Courage began to answer. He told that I cannot forget that one and a half year spent in pain. I handled myself with great difficulty and put all the focus on my rehab.
Handled difficulties, now showing strength in IPL 2023
Tushar handled himself then and now its effect is visible. In IPL 2023, he is wreaking havoc. Tushar Deshpande is on a mission to take wickets for Chennai Super Kings. That’s why in this season’s Purple Cap race, international bowlers like Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan are competing.
IPL debut from Delhi team, but shining after coming to Chennai
Tushar Deshpande’s IPL debut was by playing for Delhi Capitals. Then he took 2 wickets for 37 runs in the very first match against Rajasthan Royals. Ben Stokes was his first IPL victim. After this, Tushar did not play in IPL 2021 as he was not sold in the auction. But, in the auction, unsold Deshpande was joined by Chennai Super Kings as a net bowler.
Well, the wait to play in the yellow jersey is over. Due to injuries to players like Kyle Jamieson, Mukesh Chaudhary, Deepak Chahar, Ben Stokes and Simarjit Singh together, the situation became such that MS Dhoni had to field his net bowler. Adopting the new formula of Impact Player, Dhoni gave him a chance against Gujarat Titans, after which he did not look back. He continued to live up to Dhoni’s trust.
Dhoni gave a chance, did a ‘dance’ on the field
Deshpande, who took only 3 wickets in 5 matches in his debut season for Delhi, has played 11 matches so far in the 16th season under Dhoni’s umbrella and has taken 19 wickets. Not only this, he has become Dhoni’s Brahmastra in powerplay and death overs. But even after this success, Tushar’s real destination is still far away.
Destination will be found, walking with Dhoni
Tushar Deshpande, who made his List A debut in the year 2018, wants to play for India. It is expected that the way he has grabbed the opportunity given by MS Dhoni with both hands, after that his dream of playing for India will not remain far away. Anyway, the yellow jersey team of IPL has given many famous stars to the cricket of the country, maybe the next number is of Tushar Deshpande.
